As the housing and cost of living crises continue, more than 250 former and current residents, staff, volunteers, partners, and support workers will gather to celebrate Link Wentworth’s 40 years of providing social and affordable housing across Sydney, including in Ryde.
Not-for-profit Link Wentworth manages more than 6,400 homes across Sydney, including over 1,700 homes in the Ryde Local Government Area. The Ryde properties include social and affordable housing, specialist disability accommodation, transitional housing, and crisis accommodation.
“Social and affordable housing is more important than ever as the cost of living and housing crises continue to pressure individuals and families,” Link Wentworth CEO Andrew McAnulty said.
“Link Wentworth is committed to working with local, state and federal governments, and the private sector, to make sure we secure funding for new and much-needed housing in and around Ryde. Now is the time to build upon our history, and work with partners to do more.
“To address the need for better services for local residents facing housing stress and homelessness, Link Wentworth has partnered with Landcom to deliver 135 affordable homes in Lachlan’s Line, in a 100 per cent affordable housing development due to start next year.”
Mr McAnulty said the organisation has a large presence in the Ryde community, and in addition to funding its own local initiatives, regularly partners with local organisations to host events.
“Through the Dignity fridge located in our West Ryde office, we help to distribute an average of 250 meals a week to clients and residents, and our partnership with the Salvos allows for regular access to free dinners, food hampers, coffees, and social initiatives,” he said.
Link Wentworth is a long-time silver sponsor of the iconic Granny Smith Festival; hosts a Ryde Lunar New Year celebration with the Chinese Australian Services Society; and holds an End-of-Year Party providing local residents the opportunity to celebrate the festive season.
Link Wentworth is one of Australia’s largest providers of safe, secure, and affordable housing. Media is invited to attend the 40-year celebration and conduct interviews.
